Niue has approved a temporary licence allowing Starlink to operate for a 12-month trial. The government announced the decision on May 12, 2026, following the company's completion of local regulatory requirements.

The permission covers spectrum and internet communications services. It is intended to give households and communities another connection option while the government monitors performance, compliance, and the effect on the community during the trial.

This is a trial approval. The announcement does not establish the day on which the first household activated a terminal, or promise that the same arrangement will continue after the 12-month period.

The government also described ongoing work on Telecom Niue's fibre network and new network sites in Alofi and Tuapa. Satellite is being introduced alongside those investments, giving customers another possible route online rather than ending the need for local infrastructure.

The decision follows Starlink's earlier Pacific openings in Tonga and the Cook Islands. Anyone considering a terminal still needs a suitable sky view and should check the local service address and trial conditions before ordering.
