SWISS is bringing Starlink into scheduled service, starting with an Airbus A320neo flying from Zurich to Thessaloniki on September 28.
The airline's announcement identifies the aircraft as HB-JDM, named Iseltwald, and the inaugural service as LX1852.
The connection is free for Miles & More members and Travel ID users in all cabins. It forms part of the Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi rollout.
Three A320-family aircraft are due to receive the equipment in the initial phase. SWISS expects its entire fleet to be equipped by the end of 2029.
That turns Lufthansa Group's January agreement into another airline's operating service, following Lufthansa's first connected flight in August.
For passengers, there is one restriction worth knowing before imagining a long video call from their seat: SWISS prohibits voice calls, video calls, and live broadcasting during the flight.
Watching or listening to content also requires headphones, and passengers are asked to respect the privacy of others when sharing photos or videos.
Some of the r/Switzerland discussion is focused on exactly that cabin-etiquette issue. The airline's own rules, rather than assumptions in the thread, establish what is permitted.
A better internet connection doesn't require airlines to allow every use technically possible over it. The cabin remains shared space, even when the satellite link can handle more traffic.
Our Starlink Aviation guide explains the equipment behind the service.
For now, passengers still need to check their particular aircraft. One equipped A320neo begins the rollout; it doesn't complete it across SWISS's short- and long-haul fleet.
