Starlink has launched its satellite broadband service in Uruguay. The company confirmed availability on May 2, 2024.
Uruguay follows Argentina into Starlink's South American service area. Both launches give customers in the Río de la Plata region an alternative to the terrestrial networks serving their particular property.
The main opportunity is likely to be outside locations already served by a good fixed line. For a farm or rural workplace, the comparison is with the connection actually available there, including its reliability and cost. A national launch doesn't make satellite broadband the cheapest option for every household.
