Starlink has switched on service in Lithuania, according to the country's transport minister, Marius Skuodis.
In a December 2 announcement, the minister said SpaceX had just turned on the service. Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT also reported the opening.
The launch follows Poland in the region, adding another country to Starlink's European footprint. Customers still need to check the particular service address rather than treating a ministerial announcement as a guarantee that every property can immediately receive equipment.
For a rural household or workplace without a suitable fixed connection, the satellite link could offer another way online. A customer already getting reliable fibre has a different comparison to make about the equipment and monthly cost.
A workable installation remains part of the purchase. Trees and nearby buildings can restrict the terminal's view of the sky, while a site relying on the service during outages needs a dependable power supply for its local equipment as well.
