Starlink has launched in Iraq, adding another Middle Eastern market to its satellite broadband service.

The service opened on July 29 following an operating licence earlier in the month. Contemporary launch reporting records the commercial opening, while the official Iraqi News Agency's July 18 account covers the earlier regulatory agreement.

The distinction matters here. Permission to operate and a customer being able to place a local order are separate milestones.

A contemporary report showing the order page recorded a Residential 100 Mbps offer at IQD131,500 per month as the service opened. That is a dated launch offer, rather than a guarantee that the same tariff remains available. Customers should use the Iraqi storefront for the current address-specific quote.

Iraq follows earlier regional launches in Jordan, Oman and Kuwait.

For a rural property or workplace with an inadequate terrestrial connection, a satellite terminal could provide another route online. The relevant comparison is with the service available at that property, including the complete equipment and subscription cost.

Update: Shafaq's August account confirms July 17 licensing and the July 29 launch, while distinguishing the Communications and Media Commission's agreement from the role of the Communications Ministry.

Before ordering, it is worth checking the installation site for obstructions and allowing for the terminal's power needs. A second internet link still needs working equipment and electricity on the customer's side.
