The United Arab Emirates has granted Starlink a 10-year license to provide satellite internet services.

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority announced the decision on August 28. The license holder is Starlink Satellite Communications LLC.

TDRA says the authorization covers establishing and operating a public satellite communications network and providing broadband internet in the UAE.

Its scope extends beyond individual customers to businesses and government entities, as well as maritime and aviation services within the country's approved frameworks.

That is a broad regulatory step, but the release doesn't publish a consumer order date or a local price list. It shouldn't be treated as confirmation that every product can be ordered immediately.

We've seen different stages of market entry this year. Côte d'Ivoire announced an authorization and a later rollout target, while Seychelles explicitly confirmed subscriptions were available.

The wording matters to anyone deciding whether to buy equipment. A license tells us what a provider has permission to do; an order page establishes the offer a customer can actually take up.

TDRA frames the satellite network as a complement to the UAE's fiber and 5G infrastructure, including additional resilience and continuity for important services.

For a business, that could make a second communications path worth considering. Our Business versus Residential guide explains some of the product distinctions, without establishing which local UAE plans will be offered.

The regulator also says services remain subject to requirements covering security, privacy, reliability, spectrum use, and technical coordination.

The next practical details are the local launch arrangements, eligible hardware, and tariffs. This announcement establishes the license, while leaving those customer-facing questions open.
