What Starlink costs in the first year
The monthly subscription is only part of a Starlink budget. A cheaper kit can come with a higher service bill, while a roof mount, longer cable, or professional installation can add to the amount you pay before going online.
That makes the first-year total a useful comparison. Enter the hardware and service prices offered at your address, then add the extras your installation needs. Our Starlink price guide provides country-level context; your checkout and account show the offer that applies to you.
The figures above are examples, not advertised packages. Quote A starts with higher upfront costs and a lower monthly fee. Quote B does the opposite. Change either figure to see how quickly the difference in monthly charges offsets the initial saving.
How the calculator works
First-year cost = hardware + shipping + accessories + installation + other one-time costs + active-month charges + standby-month charges + 12 × other monthly costs
The calculator adds 12 full billing months. Each active month uses the active service price; each standby month uses the standby price. Other monthly costs continue in both states. The cumulative timeline includes upfront costs from the start, while the monthly view shows recurring charges alone.
For example, $400 upfront plus 12 months at $80 totals $1,360. A $200 setup with 12 months at $100 totals $1,400. The second quote starts cheaper, but the first costs $40 less over the year.
The average divides the complete first-year cost by 12 calendar months, including standby months. It is a budgeting figure, not your recurring invoice. The calculator uses cents internally and rounds the displayed average to two decimal places.
Check standby before planning seasonal use
Don’t assume an unused month costs nothing. Starlink’s pause guidance describes paid Standby Mode, with eligibility and country exceptions. Check the option and fee shown in your account, then enter that amount here.
The four-month preset switches months 5 through 8 to active service and leaves the rest on standby. These are numbered billing cycles, not specific calendar dates. You can choose any combination separately for each quote.
A planned switch does not guarantee that your current plan will be available when you resume. Starlink says Standby Mode does not reserve Residential capacity. This calculator compares entered costs; it does not check plan eligibility or predict reactivation charges.
Include taxes, fees, and installation
Use tax-inclusive amounts where possible. If checkout lists a separate shipping charge, demand surcharge, or other one-time fee, add it to the matching field. Put recurring rental or fixed fees under Other monthly costs, without counting the same charge twice.
Starlink’s terms describe shipping charges, taxes, and additional fees. The applicable country terms and your actual order take precedence. A zero in the calculator means you entered no cost for that item, not that Starlink supplies it free.
The tool does not estimate prorated invoices, changing prices, refunds, financing, exchange rates, or data overages. Add a known fixed allowance yourself if needed. Changing the currency changes the label only; it does not convert the amounts.
Share your Starlink cost comparison
Copy link saves both sets of figures and their service schedules in the link. Someone opening it can change the assumptions and compare their own quote. Download PNG creates a summary of the annual costs, active months, and standby months for sharing.
Keep the distinction between an entered estimate and an actual offer clear when you share it. These calculations use your assumptions and do not retrieve a quote from Starlink.
