Starlink has launched its satellite broadband service in Nigeria. The company confirmed availability on January 30, 2023.
Nigeria is the first African country where Starlink's commercial service is available, SpaceX said. The launch brings the company's direct-to-customer satellite broadband model to a new continent.
The opportunity extends beyond households. A rural business, clinic or school could use a dish where a suitable terrestrial connection is unavailable. But availability and affordability are separate questions: equipment, the recurring bill and a dependable electricity supply all form part of the cost of getting connected.
