How do you think its function would be impacted at -50F on a cell tower over 100′ up near the arctic circle? I’m wondering because my company is thinking about doing this and I will have to maintain it.

In reply to Viktor. Had starlink for Hurricane Helene & Milton in Florida, never lost service. We have a home generator so I’m sure that makes a difference to those that lost service. No electric, no service. We had winds of 120+, I have video of us watching TV/Streaming/Wifi whilst the hurricane was hitting. No power for a couple weeks, but we had active Starlink. Wouldn’t change it for nothing!

I live in Arizona where the summer temps can and do reach over 130, I have tested this. My understanding is keeping dishy cool to under 122 it will not shut down. Looking for ideas, my question, will a 30% shade cloth above dishy effect the speeds. Kinda like a light cloud cover, it reduces my temps to around 110.

Got my Starlink gen2 kit recently precisely to be able to use internet because I live in Baguio, a very rainy area in the mountainous region north of the Philippines. Here, it rains almost every day of the year, more so in the so-called rainy season or monsoon. I got the Starlink precisely to have a secondary internet connection in case that my fiber internet does down or there’s an outage. Turns out that during these moments, Starlink is also going down and not reliable as a back up connection.

More important is the fear of lightning strikes. My dishy is in the roof, not like I can just go there and remove it anytime if it’s hit by a lightning.

Starlink accessories, such as the 150ft. cable or the ethernet adapter are expensive, very expensive, and this comes from someone stationed in the Philippines but that has been living in Europe all his life. I cannot imagine how expensive it is for a filipino.

So the equipment should come with some guarantees and other things such as lightning surge protection. Because the dishy is totally meant to be installed on a roof to have clear view of the sky.

During rainy or cloudy weather I can experience packet loss here and there, so gaming is totally an absolute no-no. Gaming during nice weather, however, it’s all good and I haven’t experienced any packet loss at all.

The biggest advantage of the Starlink dishy, is that it’s a piece of equipment you can take anywhere with you, so long as you remain inside the country. So you’re not stuck in any place in particular. Although you must be warned: every time you move the dishy, it will have to re-map obstructions and re-calculate orientation for best satellite connection.

If you’re planning to get this for gaming, I would not recommend it unless you live in a place that is not rainy and where you can have a ver clear view of the sky.

In reply to David. Lost mine for at least 30 min. with only fog and cloud cover. Other times slows considerably. Had it for 1 month. I'm on a mountain in the Philippines. (not that high up.) Also, satellite density may be less here.
